FSMWB jointly with Linux Users' Group Kolkata and School of Mobile Computing and Communication will organise a workshop on Software Freedom Day on 14th September 2012 at 2:00 pm at Jadavpur University main campus.

First State Conference on Free Software Movement

Key Note Address by Dr. Nagarjuna

Dr. Nagarjuna delivered the keynote address - "Free Software as a Social Movement". His slide presentation is available here - FSM-30th-Jan-Nagarjuna-Prez.pdf.

He also left with us a copy (with permission to re-print and re-distribute) of his essay "Clearing the roadblocks to Create a Free Digital Society", which is essentially the gist of his talk. The essay can be downloaded from here Nagarjuna-roadblocks.pdf


Free Software in e.Governance from Amtron

Mr. Anupam Barman, System Consultant, Amtron, Govt of Assam spoke at length on the FOSS activities initiated at Amtron. He emphasized how FOSS was helping Assam Govt to deliver better services. His slides are available here in PDF Leveraging_Free_Open_Source_in_eGovernance-Amtron.pdf‎ format.

Application Development with Free Software : Pradeepto Bhattacharya (KDE)

Pradeepto Bhattacharya, KDE Asia Representative
Pradeepto Bhattacharya from KDE Project was the last speaker on Day 1. He gave a passionate speech on how everyone, from any walk of life can contribute to Free Software. How it is all about empowering people e.g. in the KDE project the youngest contributor aged 16 to the oldest at 68 years. That one need not be a software geek to contribute. His talk also focussed on the new mobile centric computing and how Free Software is again proving its mettle in that area.

Combined E-Gov and AppsDev Session, Chaired by Dr. Tinku Acharya

FSMWB organised a 2-Day State Level Workshop on Free Software Applications at the School of Mobile Computing & Communication (SMCC), Jadavpur University, Salt Lake Campus.
